Sam is passionate about raising awareness of FASD and in supporting the community of parents, carers and young people who access the service. She has a strong background in Education and Special needs support and is an asset to the team as bringing the living experience.

 

Sam is a parent of two young people with FASD, one who also has other associated special needs. Therefore, she understands first-hand the challenges, and also the joys of raising children and young people with complex needs. Sam is also a care experienced person, having been fostered and later adopted as a child. Having worked in education for more than 15 years and been a Specialist teacher for the past 3 years, Sam has a detailed and practical knowledge of the systems that families are navigating in their journey for support. For example, Knowledge of SEN practice in education, higher needs funding, EHCPs and outreach services. Samantha is a specialist in communication and interaction disorders including, but not limited to, neurodivergent conditions such as Autism, ADHD and Specific Learning Disability, which often co-exist with FASD. 

 

Samantha has been working for Dover Specialist Teaching and Learning Service since Sept 2021. Her role is primarily outreach support to mainstream schools to support the inclusion of pupils with additional educational needs. Her specialisms are communication and interaction and Early Years. She also regularly delivers training to schools and multi academy trusts.
